New gutter cost on a Bothell house, by when it was built

In Census figures, about 27 percent of Bothell's housing was built before 1980, about half between 1980 and 2009, and about 23 percent in 2010 or later. Here is what new gutters cost across those eras.

Gutter-only prices, before downspouts. Per-foot rates: $9 to $13 installed for 5-inch K-style, $11 to $16 for 6-inch.

On a hillside lot, the low-side downspout can run 25 feet or more, at $4 to $7 a foot. The old gutters usually come down and get hauled off at no extra charge, and rotten fascia found behind them typically adds $300 to $800.

Bothell's rainwater guide gives a sense of the load: a 1,000 square foot roof sheds 625 gallons in a one-inch rain, so a 2,400 square foot roof sends about 1,500 gallons through its gutters in one such storm.

Everyday fixes like a dripping corner or a dented length ($10 to $20 a foot to replace) work the same here as anywhere, and our gutter repair page lists what a repair visit covers. Old sectional gutters leaking at joint after joint are usually past saving, so price those from the table above.

What Bothell's rain, trees and hills do to gutters

  • The wet season starts with leaf drop. Bothell has no full NOAA climate station of its own, so the closest full record is Seattle's Sand Point, about 5.5 miles away: 37.82 inches a year on the 1991 to 2020 normals, 73 percent of it from October through March. Maples drop their leaves just as that stretch begins.
  • Needles first, then leaves. Firs and cedars drop needles in every season, and the needles mat inside the outlets until fall leaves seal them over. The city's homeowner guide says to clean gutters at least twice a year, more often under overhanging trees.
  • Seven hills and a river valley. Bothell rises from about 18 feet at the Sammamish River to about 500 feet across what city plans call its seven hills, with ravines and steep, treed slopes in Queensborough, Maywood and Norway Hill. A house on a slope often has an extra story on the downhill side, so its downspouts run longer and empty onto ground that washes out. On those lots we plan the downspouts first and size the gutters to match.

When a Bothell gutter system is worth replacing

Seamless aluminum has a typical life of 25 to 30 years. A house from around 1992 on its original gutters is at the end of that window. Age alone doesn't settle it, though. A fair rule of thumb: once the needed repairs would touch about a third of the system, new gutters make more sense than patching.

Repair usually wins when the trouble is confined to one spot, like a single leaking corner, and the metal is straight with sound joints everywhere else. Replace when leaks and soft fascia turn up on several sides of the house. New installs carry our 20-year workmanship warranty. Profiles, colors and hangers are on the seamless gutter replacement page.

Sizing gutters for Bothell's hills and heavy-rain days

Sand Point averages 21 days a year with half an inch of rain or more, and those heavy days are when an undersized system is most likely to overflow. Hillside houses are the hard case, because a spill off the tall downhill side lands on the ground most prone to washing out.

For most Bothell homes our recommendation is 6-inch K-style gutters paired with 3x4-inch downspouts, especially on two-story houses or under firs and maples. The larger gutter holds more water and the larger downspout passes debris that would plug a 2x3, for $2 to $3 more a foot; the math is in our gutter sizing guide for 5-inch and 6-inch gutters. A one-story cottage or rambler with a simple roof and few trees can stay at 5-inch, with downspouts 30 to 40 feet apart and one at each valley.

Gutter guards under Bothell trees

The city measured 44 percent tree canopy in 2023, with the Waynita, Simonds and Norway Hill area at 54 percent, and red maple is the most common street tree in its 2025 inventory. A guard here has to shed broad leaves and winged seeds as well as fir needles, so we recommend stainless micro-mesh, whose fine screen also stops needles that slip through coarser guards. On sound gutters it typically runs $4 to $8 a foot. Bundled into a new seamless install, the pair costs $11 to $18 a foot, less than buying them separately. Upkeep usually drops to one check a year. Guard types and prices are compared on the gutter guard installation page.

Permits and drainage rules in Bothell

Bothell's list of permit-exempt work does not mention gutters, and the city's Permit Center says repairs to existing structures generally need a permit, so call the Permit Center at 425-806-6400 before a full replacement. Downspouts are where the rules usually apply: the city's rainwater guide says changing how they drain may need a stormwater connection, right-of-way or grading permit. Homes with Bothell addresses outside city limits fall under Snohomish County's rules instead.

What we check on a Bothell gutter estimate

  1. Which rules apply. Whether the address is inside city limits or in unincorporated Snohomish County decides who to ask about drainage and permits, so we confirm it first.
  2. Where each downspout ends. Splash block, extension or buried line, and whether the city limits disconnection there. On a hillside house we lay out the long low-side downspouts before choosing a gutter size.
  3. One written number. We measure every run, check the fascia and the roof edge, and photograph each problem spot. Then you get a fixed price for the repair along with a frank opinion on whether it's worth doing, or one install price covering size, color, downspouts and fascia work.

Working both sides of Bothell's county line

Bothell has been a two-county city since the 1992 Canyon Park annexation; today about 60 percent of residents live in King County and 40 percent in Snohomish County. Norway Hill and most of Westhill and Bloomberg Hill are on the King County side. Canyon Park, Fitzgerald and Shelton View are in Snohomish County, while North Creek, Maywood / Beckstrom Hill and Midtown (the old Country Village area) straddle the line. We also cover Queensborough, downtown and the Thrasher's Corner area, plus homes with Bothell addresses in unincorporated Snohomish County. For roof work in the city, start at our Bothell service page. Snohomish County continues north into Mill Creek and west into Lynnwood (see gutter installation in Lynnwood), and King County south into Kirkland and Redmond (see our Redmond gutter repair page).

Bothell gutter repair and installation FAQ

Which Bothell, WA company handles gutter and roof services?

Atrax Roof and Gutter does both, for homes on the King County and Snohomish County sides of Bothell. Our in-house crews repair and install seamless gutters and repair and replace roofs, and many gutter leaks actually begin at the roof's drip edge, which is one reason it helps to have one company look at both. We're licensed, bonded and insured.

How much does gutter repair cost in Bothell, WA?

Clearing and resealing an outlet packed with fir needles and maple leaves, the usual cause of overflow under Bothell's trees, costs $150 to $300. Most repairs of any kind fall between $150 and $600 in 2026. Rehanging a loose run, adding downspout capacity or replacing a damaged length ($10 to $20 per linear foot) sits toward the top, and fascia repair adds $300 to $800.

How much does gutter installation cost in Bothell, WA?

Footage drives most of it. A two-story house with 190 to 250 feet of gutter usually lands between $2,000 and $3,600, and a hillside home with long low-side downspouts costs more. Installed seamless aluminum costs $9 to $16 a linear foot, with 6-inch at the upper end.

Can seamless gutters be repaired?

Yes. Seamless gutters are formed in long single pieces, so the sealed joints sit mostly at the corners, end caps and outlets. Most repairs mean resealing one of those, rehanging a run on new hidden hangers or swapping in one matching length. If the metal is crushed or pitted along most of the house, replacement beats repeated patches.

Can I disconnect my downspouts in Bothell?

Not everywhere. The city's rainwater guide says some areas don't allow it because of erosion, landslides and poor soils, and it asks residents south of the Sammamish River to talk to the city first. Where it is allowed, heavy flows must still be able to tie back into the storm system, and runoff should never be aimed at a foundation, a steep slope or a landslide area.

Are there affordable ways to fix overflowing gutters?

Usually. First check whether the gutter spills when it's clean. If it only overflows when packed with debris, clearing the run and resealing the outlet ($150 to $300) solves it. If a clean gutter still spills in heavy rain, a second outlet or a 3x4-inch downspout typically fixes it for $150 to $350 per downspout.

Schedule a Bothell gutter estimate before the wettest months

November, December and January are the wettest months on the Sand Point record, and the maples finish dropping their leaves as that stretch begins, so fall is the time to fix a sagging run or a plugged outlet. A downspout already cutting into a slope shouldn't wait for the next storm. Book a free estimate through our contact page or by phone at (425) 449-2878. We cover Bothell addresses on both county sides and in the unincorporated areas around the city. You'll see a written number and pictures of what needs fixing before anything is scheduled, and bigger jobs can be financed.
