Gutter Repair & Replacement
In Newcastle, WA
Fixes for the corner that spills every storm and the run that sags, or a new seamless system when the old one is worn out, with photos and a written price first.
Gutter repairs in Newcastle usually cost $150 to $600 in 2026. A full replacement in new seamless aluminum runs $9 to $16 per linear foot, installed, which works out to $2,000 to $3,600 on a typical two-story house. A gutter that spills at one corner or sags along one run is nearly always a repair. Leaks or sags on several sides of the house, or clean gutters that still overflow along whole runs, usually mean it's time to replace. We measure and photograph first, then the price goes in writing.
Newcastle only became a city in 1994, and a lot of its housing is about the same age. The Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 estimates put the median year built at 1995 for owner-occupied homes and 1999 for all housing, and about one unit in five went up during the 1990s. Seamless aluminum gutters tend to last 25 to 30 years, so a house from the mid-1990s that still has its original gutters is right at the end of that window now.
Atrax Roof and Gutter started in Kirkland in 2018 and is licensed, bonded and insured in Washington under L&I contractor license ATRAXRG824NU. In Newcastle we fix gutters, replace them, put guards on them and clean them out, and each new gutter system we install is backed by a 20-year workmanship warranty.
Newcastle gutter repair and replacement prices for 2026
Typical installed prices, with a note on when each job is the right call. Taking down and hauling away the old gutters is normally part of a replacement.
| Job | Typical price (2026) | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Repair visit: clear and reseal an outlet, seal a corner, rehang a run | $150 to $600 | The problem sits in one spot and the metal is straight |
| One damaged length swapped out | $10 to $20 per linear ft | A dent or split in a run that is otherwise sound |
| Full replacement, 5-inch seamless | $9 to $13 per linear ft | A one-story roof with few trees over it |
| Full replacement, 6-inch seamless | $11 to $16 per linear ft | Two-story houses, long runs and heavy leaf drop |
| Downspouts | $4 to $7 per linear ft | One per outlet, plus an extra one where a roof valley drains in |
| Soft fascia board replaced | $300 to $800 per typical section | The wood behind the old gutter no longer holds a hanger |
| Micro-mesh guards over gutters in good shape | $4 to $8 per linear ft | Once the gutters themselves drain properly |
| New gutters and guards installed together | $11 to $18 per linear ft | Costs less than adding guards later |
Here's how that adds up on a 1990s two-story house with 190 feet of eave and five downspouts of about 18 feet each. In 6-inch gutter, the runs come to $2,090 to $3,040 and the 90 feet of downspout to $360 to $630, so roughly $2,450 to $3,670 before any fascia work. The same runs in 5-inch gutter would be $1,710 to $2,470.
Why Newcastle gutters overflow in the first heavy rains
The nearest weather station with a 30-year NOAA record is at Renton Municipal Airport, about three and a half miles southwest of Newcastle's center, at the south end of Lake Washington. On the 1991 to 2020 normals, rainfall there climbs from 1.53 inches in September to 3.49 in October and 5.61 in November, the wettest month of the year. November also averages more days with an inch of rain or more than any other month: 1.2 of the 3.8 such days in a typical year. An inch of rain on 1,000 square feet of roof is about 620 gallons, so on a day like that a 2,000 square foot roof sends roughly 1,250 gallons through its gutters.
Then come the leaves. The city's 2018 tree canopy study, based on 2017 aerial imagery, found trees covering 47 percent of Newcastle, and 55 percent of that canopy is deciduous. Broadleaf trees let go of most of their leaves in October and November, right as the rain picks up, and the leaves land on top of evergreen needles that come down all year. A gutter that drained fine in August can be packed solid at the outlet by the first big November storm.
Where the water comes over tells you most of what's wrong:
| Where it spills | Usual cause | The fix | Typical cost (2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| At one corner, once the leaves are down | Outlet plugged with leaves on a mat of needles | Clear the run, flush the downspout and reseal the outlet | $150 to $300 |
| Mid-run, with water standing in the trough | A sag, or a run that has lost its fall | Rehang it on hidden hangers, pitched toward the outlet | $200 to $450 |
| Over the front at a valley, even when clean | Two roof planes pouring into one corner | Add an outlet or swap in a larger 3x4-inch downspout | $150 to $350 a downspout |
| Along whole runs in every downpour | Gutters or downspouts too small for the roof | Replace with 6-inch gutters and 3x4-inch downspouts | $11 to $16 per linear ft, plus downspouts |
| Behind the gutter, staining the fascia | A failed seam or corner, or a gutter pulled away from the board | Reseal or replace the corner piece, then refasten the loose section | $150 to $350; rehanging is $200 to $450 |
| Bubbling out of the ground at a downspout | A clogged or broken buried drain line | Hose-test the line and reseat the downspout | $100 to $300; a broken line is quoted separately |
| Wherever the gutter tips forward | Soft fascia that won't hold a hanger | Replace the soft board, then hang the gutter again | $300 to $800, plus the rehang |
One rule covers most of that table. If the water comes over in one spot, look for one cause, and the answer is usually a repair. If it comes over everywhere, the system is undersized or worn out, and that's a replacement conversation. What a repair visit includes is spelled out on our gutter repair page.
Repair or replace: making the call on a Newcastle house
Keep a system and repair it when the problems are local and the metal is still in good order: straight runs, tight joints and hangers that hold. Fixing one corner on a sound 20-year-old system is money well spent.
Replacement makes more sense when any of these is true:
- The same leaks or sags turn up on two or more sides of the house.
- Clean gutters still spill along whole runs in ordinary storms, a sign the gutters can't carry what the roof sheds.
- They're the original gutters on a house from the mid-1990s or earlier, and the corners have been resealed more than once.
- The fascia needs work on more than one side anyway, so the gutters are coming down regardless.
- The roof is being replaced. More on that below.
New gutter systems we install carry our 20-year workmanship warranty. For profiles, colors and hangers, see our seamless gutter replacement page.
Replacing gutters with a new roof
On a house built in the 1990s, the original roof and the original gutters went up the same year, so both often come due around the same time. You don't have to replace gutters with the roof: straight, sound gutters can stay. But if they're within a few years of the end of their 25 to 30, doing them during the roof job costs about $400 to $700 less than a separate visit later, because the crew, the dumpster and the access are already there. The new drip edge and the new gutters also go on together, which keeps rain from running down behind the gutter. For the roof itself, start at our page on roof replacement in Newcastle.
Sizing new gutters for Newcastle roofs
We size a new system to the roof and the trees instead of copying what was there. On most two-story houses, and anywhere broadleaf trees hang over the roof, that means a 6-inch K-style trough feeding 3x4-inch downspouts. The bigger trough holds about 40 percent more water, and the larger downspout passes wet leaves that would plug a 2x3. Going up a size costs roughly $2 to $3 more per foot. A one-story roof without much tree cover can keep 5-inch gutters if the downspouts are spaced 30 to 40 feet apart along each run and every valley drains to its own outlet. If you want the numbers, our gutter sizing guide works through roof area and rainfall.
Leaves, needles and gutter guards in Newcastle
How much lands in a given gutter depends on the street. In the city's canopy study, single-family neighborhoods average 51 percent tree cover and hold 69 percent of all of Newcastle's tree canopy, but the spread is wide: by census block group, cover ran from 29 percent to 93 percent. A house under a stand of tall trees needs a different plan from one with open sky above it.
For a mix of broadleaf leaves and evergreen needles, stainless micro-mesh is the guard we recommend. Its fine screen keeps both out of the trough, and most of what settles on top dries out and blows off. Over existing gutters in good condition, expect $4 to $8 a foot, or $11 to $18 a foot as part of a new gutter install. Guards never go over a gutter that leaks or sags, and they still need a look once a year. The different guard types are side by side on our gutter guard installation page.
Without guards, plan on a cleaning in late fall, after the leaves are down, and another in spring. Houses under heavy cover may need three or four a year. A cleaning typically runs $150 to $400 for the whole house, and our gutter cleaning cost guide breaks down what moves that price.
Where the water goes on a sloped Newcastle lot
Newcastle is built on the foothills that rise from the southeast shore of Lake Washington, and the city's comprehensive plan describes it as straddling a steep-sided valley drained by two creeks, Coal Creek and May Creek. Among the plan's examples of landslide hazard areas are slopes steeper than 15 percent where silt or clay soils are layered with sand and gravel and groundwater seeps out. The city regulates steep slope, landslide and coal mine hazard areas, the last a reminder of the coal mines Newcastle grew up around.
That makes the end of each downspout matter as much as the gutter. Water dumped onto a slope, or leaking from a cracked buried line, ends up in exactly the ground that should stay driest. On every estimate we run a hose down each downspout that disappears underground and note any that empty toward a slope. If the fix means sending water somewhere new, check with the City of Newcastle before any trench is dug, and on a steep lot have a geotechnical engineer look first.
How a Newcastle gutter estimate works
- Water first. We run water through each run and down each downspout, buried lines included, so the price is based on what actually drains.
- Photos of every problem spot. Outlets, sags, corners, fascia and the roof edge, sent with the estimate so you see what we saw.
- One written number. A fixed price for a repair, or for new gutters a single price covering size, color, downspouts and any fascia work, with our honest take on repairing versus replacing.
- The work and the cleanup. New runs are formed on site to the length of each eave and hung on hidden hangers. Before we leave, we flush the system and take the old metal with us. A repair is usually done in one visit, and most replacements in a day.

Newcastle gutter repair and replacement questions
How much does gutter repair cost in Newcastle, WA?
Most repairs here land between $150 and $600 in 2026. A plugged outlet that needs clearing and resealing sits at the low end, around $150 to $300, and resealing a leaking corner costs $150 to $350. Rehanging a sagging run is $200 to $450, swapping in one new length costs $10 to $20 a foot, and replacing soft fascia costs $300 to $800.
How much does it cost to replace gutters on a two-story house in Newcastle?
On most two-story houses the new gutters come to $2,000 to $3,600, with seamless aluminum priced at $9 to $16 per linear foot installed ($9 to $13 for 5-inch, $11 to $16 for 6-inch). Downspouts are $4 to $7 a foot on top of that. The final price depends on the measured footage, the gutter size and whether the fascia needs work.
Is it normal for gutters to overflow in heavy rain?
A short spill at a roof valley in a real cloudburst can happen on a healthy system. Overflow at the same corner every storm, in the middle of a run, or along whole runs is not normal. Those point to a plugged outlet, a sag or a system that's too small for the roof, and each has a known fix, from a $150 to $300 outlet reseal to new 6-inch gutters.
Why is my gutter overflowing in one spot?
Something is holding the water at that spot. The usual suspects are leaves packed into the outlet, a section that has sagged and lost its slope, or a roof valley sending two planes of water into one corner. When the spot is right at a downspout, check the bottom too: a clogged buried line backs water up the pipe and over the gutter.
Should I repair or replace my gutters?
Repair them if the problem is confined to one place and the rest of the system is straight with tight joints. Replace them if leaks or sags turn up on more than one side of the house, if clean gutters still overflow along whole runs, or if they're the originals on a mid-1990s house and keep needing the same fixes. New gutters we put up come with a 20-year workmanship warranty.
Do you have to replace gutters when you replace the roof?
No. Straight, sound gutters sized for the roof can stay. If they're close to the end of their 25 to 30 years, though, replacing them during the roof job saves about $400 to $700 compared with a separate trip later, since the crew, the dumpster and the access are already in place.
Where should downspouts drain on a sloped lot?
Away from the house and never onto the slope. Newcastle's comprehensive plan lists slopes steeper than 15 percent with silt or clay soils and seeping groundwater among its landslide hazard examples, so extra roof water is the last thing that ground needs. If a downspout empties toward a slope or a buried line is cracked, have it rerouted, and on a steep lot talk to the city and a geotechnical engineer before a new drain goes in.
